Dental Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening has gained so much in popularity it seems everyone is doing it! Every second person wants to have a beautiful smile and there is nothing wrong with that. However, you need to understand what dental teeth whitening is all about before rushing into it.

Teeth whitening products contain a peroxide based ingredient that actually bleaches the enamel and makes your teeth whiter. The level of effectiveness of the teeth whitening procedure depends on the concentration of the peroxide contained in the whitening product.

There are three ways of whitening teeth.

You can go to your dentist and have him perform an in-office procedure You can get your dentist to make custom fit trays and give you the gel for an at home treatment

You can buy teeth whitening products over the counter at any pharmacy or drug store and follow the instructions for home application. The following pointers may help you to reach a decision.

Time factor: if you are in a job where the demands on your time are enormous you will certainly not have time to spare for visits to your dentist. In this case the store bought teeth whitener will be a good option. People who are not so pressed for time will be able to fit in a dental appointment or two, and should opt for the in-office treatments.

Money factor: money is a major deciding factor in all of our lives. To put it simply, if you’ve got the money, then by all means invest in a good in-office dental treatment. Go in for laser or bleaching gel and get your dream smile. However, if money is a constraint then you can either get your dentist to give you an at-home treatment which will not be as expensive as an in-office treatment. Or you can go in for an over the counter remedy that may take a longer time to show results but will definitely be affordable.

There are some things you should know about dental teeth whitening.

Dental insurance does not cover teeth whitening because it is considered a cosmetic procedure.

When you have a teeth whitening procedure performed on your teeth the existing fillings, crowns, bridges and veneers will not lighten to the same shade as your teeth.

Teeth whitening toothpastes do not have the capacity to bleach teeth making them distinctly whiter – they can only remove light surface stains at best.

Teeth whitening does not produce the same results on all types of teeth discoloration. If you have yellow teeth you would do better having your teeth bleached. However, someone with gray teeth should not go in for bleaching as gray tinted teeth do not bleach well.

Common side effects of teeth whitening include tooth and gum irritation.

  • Cavities should be filled prior to going in for the teeth whitening procedure. There is a possibility of nerve damage from the bleaching agent if you ignore this.
  • Choices are plenty and there is no excuse for poor dental hygiene or a smile you are ashamed of!

Working Out with Dumbbells

Last year I decide to hire on with a personal trainer in order to help with some health problems I was trying to overcome.

The first thing the trainer did was introduce me to all of the different types of equipment in the health club.

One area of interest was the weight room, which featured a wide assortment of powerblock dumbbells across one wall.

My trainer recommended working with this brand of dumbbell, as it made use of a newer technology, providing more advantages.

I never thought I would see myself working out on a regular basis, much less using dumbbell equipment that would improve my overall fitness.

Not every plastic surgery procedure is rooted in vanity. Nearly half a million rhinoplasty surgeries take place in the United States each year and a large portion of those are for reconstructive purposes. Whether it’s correcting a broken nose, or a deviated septum the patient has had their whole life, rhinoplasty can improve a wide array of breathing problems. Let’s take a look at some of the most frequent problems it can correct:

Deviated Septum

The nasal septum consists of the tissue which separates one side of your nose from the other. When it is misaligned, one or both airways can be obstructed. This can greatly impair breathing. In turn, it causes the affected individual to rely more heavily on breathing through their mouth. This can pose a number of health problems. Depending on the severity of the condition, some individuals may have difficulty obtaining enough air, especially during physical activity. This is especially bad for asthmatics and severe allergy sufferers, who already have breathing problems. It can also contribute to snoring.

Fortunately, a skilled plastic surgeon should be able to improve a deviated septum through rhinoplasty. However, lateral movement of the nasal bridge is particularly tricky, so full correction may not be possible. Sometimes, a secondary surgery (revision rhinoplasty) may be needed to achieve the desired outcome in severe cases. If you would like to compare your nose to others and gauge the severity of your condition, a rhinoplasty forum may be a good place to start.

Collapsed Nasal Valve

Occasionally, the flaps of cartilage at our nasal openings are not strong enough (or their opening isn’t big enough). When this is the case, a plastic surgeon will use various techniques to try and improve it. They may use a cartilage graft to “prop” open the nasal valve. Typically, this cartilage graft is obtained from either your ears or ribs. However, it’s important to note that rib cartilage grafts often warp in the years following surgery, so it’s best to avoid them.

Choosing a Rhinoplasty Surgeon

There are tons of rhinoplasty surgeons in this country, but very few of them actually know what they’re doing. Unfortunately, because plastic surgery has turned into such a big business the past few years, many doctors have “bought” their good reputation through marketing and PR. The best plastic surgeons don’t need to spend money on ads and appear on TV shows; instead they earn their business through word-of-mouth referrals. So remember, just because a plastic surgeon claims to be a rhinoplasty specialist, it doesn’t mean they are. So before you choose a surgeon, do as much research as possible. Using a rhinoplasty forum to get advice and opinions is one way to do this.

When choosing a rhinoplasty surgeon, it’s also important to choose one that specializes in your gender and ethnicity. For example, African American rhinoplasty is often more difficult since the cartilage can be harder to manipulate. Therefore, African American rhinoplasty surgeons (surgeons that specialize in African American noses) are a good idea for these patients. In the same way, rhinoplasty on males is usually considered to be harder than females. This is because the cartilage and overlaying skin is different. This is why it’s so important to choose a doctor that specializes in your type of nose.

Choosing a Multi-Vitamin

A single supplement that includes everything you need… seems like a simple concept, right? Well nowadays, picking one out is no simple task. Stroll into any drugstore or supermarket and you will find an entire aisle of health supplements. There will be dozens of brands and hundreds of ingredients to choose from. To make matters worse, dosage recommendations are always changing. So how can you know which one is right for you? This article will give you a few pointers.

Today’s Vitamins

Not too long ago, it was easier to choose… simply because there were less products being offered. There were the good ol’ Flintstone Vitamins for kids and Centrum supplements for adults. But with increased demand came an increase in brand names. In the last decade alone, we have seen new supplement manufacturers sprout up on what seems like a daily basis!

But don’t let all this clutter confuse you. Assuming the manufacturers are truthful with their labels, the bottom line is a milligram of vitamin C, D, E, or any other basic vitamin is the same no matter who makes it. Knowing this simplifies the process, because it means you can pay attention to what they contain rather than what brand name is on the bottle.

However, that’s not to say you should discount brand names completely. There are many fly-by-night companies out there, so of course you want to choose those that stand behind their products.

New Ingredients

There’s an old Chinese proverb that says “May you live in interesting times.” Well, today’s medical discoveries certainly are fascinating. However at the same time, they can be confusing. Turn on the news or open any magazine and you’re bound to hear about some new medical breakthrough. There’s always a new antioxidant or vitamin the “experts” are recommending. It’s nearly an impossible task to stay on top of all the latest recommendations.

Unfortunately, there’s no simple answer to this dilemma. Humans don’t know everything; our medical knowledge is always evolving. So although impossible to follow every fad, you should pay attention to the discoveries which show the most promise, like alpha lipoic acid. The same can be said about CoQ10 benefits. When it comes to wrinkles, copper peptide skin care is another ingredient which is getting a lot of press lately. Vitamin E skin treatment is also a popular choice, but don’t forget about the supplement form, which is said to support the health of your heart.

Making Your Selection

In a nutshell, look for a supplement which contains the most ingredients. That way you can get the most bang for your buck. Also, choose a brand that can be trusted. It doesn’t mean the most expensive one, just a manufacturer that has been around the block. Last but not least, talk to your doctor first.  Vitamins and nutrients can have adverse side effects for certain medical conditions, so it’s best to check with a physician before you make your decision.

Treating Keloid Scars

Keloid scars only affect a small percentage of the population so for most people it isn’t a problem. But for those of us whom are prone to developing them, they can be a total nightmare. The medical community actually knows very little about this phenomenon, but research has pointed to genetics having a lot do with it. In other words, if you are susceptible to them, there is little you can do to outright prevent them. However there are a number of different techniques being used to remove them.

The Earlier, The Better

When it comes to removing keloids, you want to begin treatment as soon as you first detect the scar. The reason is that this type of scar tissue hardens with age, so it can become much more difficult to deal with later on. Also, it’s better to address it when the scar is still small, rather than waiting for it to develop into a larger mass.

Treatment Options

There are many different treatments for keloids. What works for some people might not work for another. This is why it’s so important to discuss your treatment plan with a doctor who specializes in this condition. If you turn to the internet for advice, be way of products that claim miracles and old wives tales you may read on a plastic surgery message board. The truth of the matter is that there are a lot of myths out there surrounding this condition. This is why it’s so important to talk to talk to a doctor first.

Surgical Removal

Although there are many creams and lotions that are peddled to the public, probably the most effective way to get rid of them is through surgical removal. This may sound scary, but for smaller keloids, it’s usually an outpatient procedure that is performed at a dermatologist’s office. Local anesthesia is used to numb the area so you don’t feel anything.

Returning Scars

Unfortunately there is a rather high probability a keloid could return after it is removed. Some claim the odds are 50/50 as to whether or not it comes back. This is why scar revision surgery is sometimes necessary after the first operation. Although these odds may not be the best, if you don’t do anything there is probably a 100% chance the scar will remain. So taking a chance and getting treatment is still far better than doing nothing at all.
